The Elene J. Freer Art Scholarship (Sponsored by Muskoka Arts & Craft) provides $1,200 cash for each year of study to a maximum of four years of study at a recognized university, college or another form of post-secondary education to a secondary school student from Muskoka who is continuing with a post-secondary education in the visual arts or craft field.  

It also includes a membership with Muskoka Arts & Crafts for each year of study and one free entry in the Spring Members' Show.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE  

Your application must include a portfolio, letter of intent, copy of your university or collegeís acceptance letter and contact information for yourself in Muskoka as well as when you are at school.

 

PORTFOLIO

The portfolio is your opportunity to present a visual representation of your artistic development, potential, interests and creative explorations. 

 

The work you submit should be a thoughtful selection of those pieces that you wish the committee to consider when assessing your application. Select work that indicates your seriousness in applying as well as your level of maturity, self-motivation and commitment to a visual arts education. 

 

Your portfolio should contain original work, any of your self-initiated projects as well as your response to class assignments. Between ten and twenty works must be included.

 

Ideally, submit your portfolio on a CD or memory stick. The jpg images should show your work to its best advantage. If it is not possible to submit a digital portfolio, please contact Muskoka Arts & Crafts to discuss the submission of original work.

 

LETTER OF INTENT             

The letter of intent should be approximately 500 words in length. It should describe past achievements, short and long-term goals, the reasons for pursuing a post-secondary education in the visual arts and your expectations of this education.

 

 ACCEPTANCE LETTER             

A copy of the letter of acceptance for post secondary education must be included.

Include with your application, a current contact address and telephone number for you in Muskoka as well as for when you are at school.

 

 APPLICATION DEADLINE & DELIVERY LOCATION  

The deadline is June 4, 2016 Your application must be delivered to the Chapel Gallery, located at 15 King Street in Bracebridge, during its hours of operation, which are Tuesday to Saturday, from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm. It may also be mailed to Muskoka Arts & Crafts, Box 376, Bracebridge, Ontario, P1l 1T7.

 

OTHER INFORMATION  

In any given year, the jury reserves the right not to grant the Muskoka Arts & Craftsí Student Art Award. The decisions of the jury are final.

 

It is the studentís responsibility to contact Muskoka Arts & Crafts at the beginning of September to provide proof that he or she is registered and containing in a post-secondary education in the visual arts.

 

 

AWARD CRITERIA  

  • You must be in your graduating year of high school or have graduated within the past year and be pursuing a post-secondary education in the visual arts at a recognized university, college or another form of post-secondary education.

  • You must be attending or have attended high school in Muskoka.

  • The first yearís award cheque is issued near the end of August. In order to receive it, you will need to provide a letter from the registrarís office confirming your year of study along with a list of the courses.

  • For each year of study that this award covers, you will need to provide a letter from the registrarís office confirming your year of study along with a list of the courses. This letter is due at the beginning of September. Failure to submit this letter will result in the suspension of this funding.

  • If you change majors or begin studying in a field other than the visuals arts or craft field, this will disqualify you from receiving the funding.

  • If you discontinue your studies, then this funding will cease.
