A full refund will be issued should Muskoka Arts & Crafts cancels a workshop.
No refunds will be issued to students who cancel after the registration deadline has passed.

 

Gelli Printmaking

A three-hour fun filled workshop where students will learn about gelatin printing that is a form of monoprinting in which a gelatin slab is used as a printing plate in conjunction with acrylic paint to create images.

Introduction to Digital SLR Photography

Learn how to get the most out of your Digital SLR camera. With this 6-hour course spread over three evenings, you will learn how to maximize the potential of your camera and become a better photographer. This course will cover: camera set-up; digital basics (resolution, picture file formats, colour); understanding exposure; how to combine shutter speed and aperture to capture motion and manipulate depth of field; lenses and how to use them effectively; basic flash photography; accessories for your camera and camera care; field tips and techniques for nature and landscape photography; composition; lighting. Session 2 and 3 will include some hands-on activities designed to improve your photography skills. The course will also include a booklet that summarizes all the information covered.

Andy Zeltkalns, a member of Muskoka Arts & Crafts and an avid nature and landscape photographer who has been involved in photography for over 40 years. As a freelance photographer, he has been published in a variety of magazines such as, Unique Muskoka, Dockside, Canadian Geographic, Canoeroots, and Sports Illustrated

Encaustic Painting

In this six-hour workshop, students will complete three pieces. Encaustic painting uses heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. The liquid or paste is then applied to a wood surface. Students will start with sealing the wood panels, making and colouring the encaustic medium and applying it to the wood.

An Introduction to Nuno Felting

Nuno felting is a fabric felting technique that bonds loose fiber, usually wool, into a sheer fabric such as silk, creating a lightweight felt. Nuno felting often incorporates several layers of loose fibers combined to build up colour, texture and/or design elements in the finished fabric. In this workshop, students will learn to make your own nuno felted scarf on a silk base. Students will learn how to work with wool and exotic fibers, how to create images and different effects, what is the process of felting, how to the silk blends with the wool and how the silk base frames the layers. Every student will leave with their own scarf.

Discover Your Inner Creativity Through Alcohol Ink

Discover the creative properties of alcohol ink, colour theory and the meditative qualities of this medium. In this workshop, students will work with alcohol ink and develop a deeper understanding of the inks by creating two 5"x7" landscape on Yupo paper and two tiles. Students will receive an 8"x'10" matt for framing one of the two pictures they create.

Watercolour on Canvas  
Instructor: Margot Snow, B.F.A., B.Ed.
Date: Monday, August 20 - Friday, August 24

Time: 9:30am4pm
Location: The Chapel Gallery, 15 King Street, Bracebridge
Experience: Intermediate or advanced students. A basic knowledge of watercolour painting is required.
Cost: Members - $395.50 ($350 + $45.50 HST). Non-Members - $423.75 ($375 + $48.75 HST)
Material Fee: $25 payable to the instructor
Deadline to Register: August 11

Explore techniques that are best suited for painting with watercolour on canvas and discover mediums that will enhance your work. Investigate drawing, composition, colour and watercolour techniques such as negative space and glazing. Instruction will guide you from surface preparation to sealing and varnishing your finished work. If you are a tight painter ,this technique will loosen you up as you  work in a positive and encouraging environment. Beyond the creative possibilities, this technique removes the need for heavy frames, matting and glass.
