I often as a kid would watch Minecraft videos on YouTube and draw. I would draw on the floor like in this picture or on the couch or kitchen table or in my room. I loved to draw as a kid and I would do almost anything. The image I’m drawing in this picture is an image of the sky. I decided to make the sky out of crayons. I specifically chose this media to use because not many people would think you could make something good out of it. I chose to make the sky with blues and pinks to represent how colourful  my personality can be. Specifically one event that sticks out in my mind the most. The idea that fits best with my chosen theme is “A childhood memory that has shaped who you are today”. When I was a child, (approximately ages 3-5) my mother and I lived with her boyfriend at the time, who was highly abusive; mentally and verbally. The specific event that this piece is based was the one and only time that I have ever been ‘grounded’. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI used to be put in ‘time out’ or get in trouble for extremely little things or for no reason. I still do not know why I was ‘grounded’ that day. But what I do remember is feeling alone and abandoned. I was told by my abuser to “stay in my room” and that I “was not allowed to play, move, or make any sound at all while I was grounded” which lasted the entire day. I remember being terrified and not knowing why I was in trouble at all. At dinner time my mother brought me some spaghetti on a plate and set me up with a cardboard box as a table as I did not have one in my room. I remember crying so hard to the point where I couldn’t eat. But once I had calmed down a bit I tried to eat the, cold spaghetti. However I do not remember having any utensils, so I tried to eat it with my hands as I was afraid of getting in trouble for not eating. I ended up struggling to eat through my tears and making somewhat of a mess on my hands and the box-table. To this day I still refuse to eat spaghetti. I remember waking up very early to travel with my dad to a site. I was five years old and so excited to be apart of this unique adventure. When I got there I remember the house be very magical and very unique to Muskoka. This painting is not an accurate depiction of the house, however, this is how I perceived it as a young child and still think about it to this day.  I chose this image because I felt like it was a mixture of my own personality and my dads. It shows the small cottage vibes in the forest which I find very intriguing but it also showcases a minimalist aesthetic that has a unique Muskoka room. Overall, this image was inspired by the combination of two personalities.  I am proud of the unique touches \/ details that I added to it (pie, bedroom, patio furniture). I wanted to show how much I loved that lemur, so I used watercolours for a messy jungle background and fine-liner pens for the details. I filled the lemur with Zentangle patterns like swirls and dots to give it texture. A big challenge was when I smudged the ink, but I fixed it by turning the smudge into part of the design. I really like how the bright background makes the detailed lemur stand out. The image I went off of is my favourite picture of my brother and I from when I was really little, and I wanted to make that photo into a painting but in a different familiar setting. I really struggled with the horizon line; It looked very flat, and empty so I fixed that by adding the fence and less textured hills. This assignment was challenging for me because of the imagination part, the hotel isn't exactly an accurate representation of it and more my own take on the design, but I do like how it feels more like a memory. At the start I thought if I water colored it it might ruin it but I did it anyways and I liked it. Early 2025, I found out my dad had stage four non-hodgkin lymphoma. This painting captures how I felt in the moment I found out, like I was a little girl again and all I wanted was my dad. However, it also came from a specific moment that stuck with me when we were waiting to find out if the chemo had killed all the cancer. For as long as I can remember, my dad’s pride and joy was his beard, which he used to braid and put in small ponies. He told me that finally his beard was growing back. It occurred to me I never noticed it thinning in the first place. My dad went to chemo every morning, before any of us were awake. He still worked, and cooked, and did physical labour even when he felt more than sick, all for us. It’s only when I looked back at old photos I realised it is true he lost some hair. I feel it reflects the silent struggles, unnoticeable pain and hardships he went through and is going through, and I hope my contribution reaches families and people who are affected the same way we are. This moment isn’t about the loss of hair but the growth of it. It is based on a real photo of me as a baby touching my dads beard, and I chose orange as the background colour whirling around because orange represents warmth and love. We were at a Van Gogh exhibit in Toronto. My sister had been staying at the Chelsea hotel for a few days. I had only gone up for the weekend and we didn't want to just sit at the hotel. We went to the exhibit and I was so worried about the next day until we got to sit in the room and watched all of the paintings go by on the screen. All of the artwork made me feel so at peace and thats what I want people to feel when they look at my artwork. I want it to be like a breath of fresh air from whatever they might be going through because thats what the moment felt like to me. I want this piece to show the amount of love I have for my sister and how proud I am of her. By the age of ten I hated reading more than anything, I avoided it in every situation possible, until I got into percy jackson. Percy jackson not only helped me start to read again but it also made me a better person. Greek mythology has become a big part of my life, and reading many books inspired by it as well as many musicals. This piece specifically is depicting Odysseus of Ithaca, Athena, and their mentorship. Athena is the god of wisdom, while Odysseus is the warrior of the mind, leading to him following in her footsteps and beliefs, and regardless of what comes to pass, they come back together, akin to mentorship.
