I was inspired by Transformer toys from my childhood. As a kid I used to be really into transformers because I thought them to be really cool and intricate (I still do). The imagery in the painting is representing how I would cope with the world around me. The bottom part of the work is full of dull colours, dead plants, and fire, showing how being a kid in a new world with parents that were always yelling made me remember it negatively. The top half is showing the main transformer: Optimus prime, welcoming a small kid to a land that is literally sunshine and rainbows. Representing “An Escape to Joy”.
