Goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite is said to have emerged onto land from the shell of a shellfish. Often depicted as a scallop or cockle shell, the oyster is also closely related to this Goddess. The oyster’s delicate muscular insides allow the entry of salty fertile water and as it basks in brackish sea scapes layers of nacre and time produce the birth of a beautiful pearl. A shell of conception, this aphrodisiac inspires a lusty feast fit for any lover.
