I began with deep turquoise, primary yellow, and just a bit of titanium white, then pressed rice paper into wet paint and medium to create the beautifully textured base. What started as a painted moon somehow became a vase after I flipped the canvas upside down just for fun. From there, the flowers bloomed.
Each one is made from embroidered fabric scraps I’d saved from past projects, plus a few new pieces I couldn’t resist adding in. The result is whimsical, textured, and a little mismatched, just the way I love it.
“Art is restoration: the idea is to repair the damages that are inflicted in life, to make something that is fragmented—which is what fear and anxiety do to a person—into something whole.”
– Louise Bourgeois
