This photograph of a common loon was taken on Deer Lake near Sundridge, Ontario. Before permanently moving to Muskoka, my family had a cottage in the area since I was a young child. Finding loons on the lake is one of my favourite parts of cottaging - they are such gorgeous birds and their calls are so hauntingly beautiful.
