Laughing Owl (With Flower)

This photograph of a "laughing" barred owl was taken in the winter - one of the best times for finding owls. I found this barred owl sleeping high up in a tree. Given it was late afternoon, I knew the owl would wake up shortly to start its evening hunt. I patiently waited about 2 hours for it to wake up, and once it did, it let out a huge yawn that looks like a laugh. I like to think it was laughing at me for spending the last 2 hours standing still in 2 feet of snow. Worth it!
