The inspiration for this artwork is my cat, Mushroom. I found him at a time in my life when I needed someone the most, when I was sad and in pain. He gave me a reason to wake up every day, he added joy to my life where it was lacking, and gave me something to look forward to. He was a light in the darkness for me. He always looks at me like this, studies my face, then drops into a roll and does silly poses until I smile. He takes care of me. This piece is both a snapshot of my everyday life and a memory of the past. It reminds me that I needed him just as much as he needed me. Nothing and nobody is a lost cause.
I think the message in this piece is that animals have something loving and healing about them, something that can’t be replicated or replaced. They are loyal, caring, and unique. They can mean everything to the people around them.
