Together in Paradise - SOLD

For this ceramic piece, I created a past memory. I wanted to focus on the importance of family in my childhood. I’ve grown up always knowing how much family means, and I wanted to create a piece that reflected happiness together. To achieve this, I made a beach from Sanibel Island. As a child my family and I would travel there. We made many fun memories together but the most important and lasting memories were the walks along the beach during the sunsets. The colours of the glaze help illustrate the beauty of the sunsets themselves. The mood of the piece is one of happiness and contentment from what my family and I experienced while on vacation together. Sculpturally, I wanted to incorporate the rays of sun to show the rays of love that were shared.

My process consisted of earthenware clay, and stroke and coat glazes. Overall, I feel the piece was done very well. The outcome is very beautiful and shows a strong demonstration of good technical skills and craftsmanship. My favourite part of the piece is the ombre glaze. It really makes the piece come to life and look like my past, filled with happiness.
