About

Holly Friesen was born in Saskatchewan, studied Visual Arts at John Abbott College in Montreal and painting at York University in Toronto. The artist’s current studio is based in Montreal QC and much of her summers are spent painting, paddling and hiking in Algonquin Park where she and her partner have a cabin on Cache Lake. Recently Holly has been incorporating fibre arts into her practice as well.

“My work revolves around earth honouring images that internalize a reverence for the earth. Painting is like a deep prayer of attentiveness. I learn what I need to know by painting from the inside out. The more I listen the less separation there is between inner & outer worlds. Painting is my breath, beauty my compass & the earth is my body.”
