Martha Davis

About

I studied at Sheridan College, the Dundas School of Art and the Haliburton School of the Arts. I have sold mainly in Canada and exhibit at local galleries. My inspiration comes from: my dance background; the naturalism and movement of Emily Carr; the raw boldness of Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven; the drama, colour and excitement of Pat Fairhead (Muskoka); the tension of Alex Colville and the sometimes simplistic and wonky perspective of mundane objects by Paul Cezanne. I relish the use of the palette knife which allows me the freeing opportunity to carve out lyrical shapes. While I appreciate abstraction, I tend to gravitate towards impressionism, the “up close and personal” view, layering via transparency and off-beat designs.
